[V-BT05] Card Review – Tsukuyomi ride chain

Here’s part 2 of 5 for the V-BT05 articles. Don’t forget to check out Part 1.

Tsukuyomi was a popular ride chain back in the day. Being able to look at the top five of deck, and riding a Tsukuyomi that’s one grade higher from among those five. But now, in V Series, how does a rebooted Tsukuyomi fare, and what does it bring to the clan? Let’s take a look at the three Goddesses that make up the Tsukuyomi ride chain: “Crescent Moon”, “Half Moon”, and “Full Moon”.

[AUTO]:When rode upon, draw a card.

The starter is “Godhawk, Ichibyoshi”; it has your typical First Vanguard ability, nothing much else to say there. Except that having it in your soul is a requirement for one of the other pieces of the ride chain. Sadly, it does not actually have the same ability as the original Ichibyoshi, so you’re forced to open with Crescent Moon. Speaking of which…

[AUTO](VC):At the beginning of your ride phase, if “Godhawk, Ichibyoshi” is in your soul, look at five cards from the top of your deck, put one card from among them into your hand, put the rest on the bottom of your deck in any order, and discard a card from your hand. If you discarded “Goddess of the Half Moon, Tsukuyomi”, ride it as [Stand], and you cannot ride this turn.

Similar to its original card, Crescent has the sole ability of checking top 5 and superior riding a grade higher, though the way it does this is different in that you don’t exactly have to have Half Moon in the top 5 to superior ride. You can just discard the Half Moon that was already in your hand, then still superior ride.

[AUTO](VC):At the beginning of your ride phase, look at five cards from the top of your deck, put one card from among them into your hand, put the rest on the bottom of your deck in any order, and discard a card from your hand. If you discarded “Goddess of the Full Moon, Tsukuyomi”, ride it as [Stand], and you cannot ride this turn.
[CONT](VC/RC):During the battle that it attacked a vanguard, if “Goddess of the Crescent Moon, Tsukuyomi” is in your soul, this unit gets [Power]+3000.

Half Moon has pretty much the same ability when it comes to superior riding. Which effectively makes the Tsukuyomi ride chain a free plus. Half Moon can also gain a welcome 3000 Power if Crescent Moon is in your soul, just to reach the same Power level as a grade 3 (12000 Power).

[ACT](VC)[1/Turn]:COST [Counter Blast (1) & Discard a card from your hand], choose up to three cards with “Tsukuyomi” in their card names from your soul, and draw cards equal to the number of cards chosen. If you drew three cards, look at five cards from the top of your deck, put up to two cards from among them on the top of your deck in any order, and put the rest on the bottom of your deck in any order.
[AUTO](VC):When you reveal two or more triggers during your drive check this turn, until end of turn, three of your front row units get [Power]+10000.

Did someone say “plus”? Yes, there’s more than just a plus from the ride chain. Drawing three cards and dropping a single hand card is a straight +2 for a Counter Blast, which is very very powerful. But better yet. if you ended up drawing three cards with this ability, you get some stacking potential. And yes, you don’t have to Soul Blast 2 grade 3s to do so. Get to stack two triggers on the top of your deck, and you pretty much have a massive boost to pressure. Better still with its second ability, which is basically a Front Trigger, giving 10000 to your front row. Being able to draw a ton of cards every turn is a massive boost, but if you realized, all of the Tsukuyomi cards allow you to put cards on the bottom of your deck in any order. If you can manage to commit to memory, in some way or form, the order of the cards you placed at the bottom of your deck, then that gives you full control of the fight, down to the very cards you reveal for your drive check. Gotta channel the power of Misaki’s eidetic memory!

That’s all for Tsukuyomi and Oracle Think Tank. Up next we’ll have a look at the ninja dragons and how their disruptive capabilities shine.
