[V-BT05] Card Review – Solitary Knight, Gancelot

Welcome to Part 1 of a five part mini series where we look at the VRs of every clan in the upcoming set.

It’s the release week of V-BT05 Aerial Steed Liberation for the Japanese format. In the five days leading up to the release date, let’s look at all the five aces of the clans. Today we’ll look at “Solitary Knight, Gancelot”, revealed three weeks ago alongside “Knight of the Harp, Tristan” and “Pluck Enchanter”.

V-BT05/001 VR 孤高の騎士 ガンスロッド Solitary Knight, Gancelot
[CONT](VC):All of the “Blaster Blade” on your (VC) or (RC) get [Power]+10000.
[CONT](VC):During your turn, if your opponent’s vanguard is grade 3 or greater, your front row circles with “Blaster Blade” on them become (VC). ((VC) abilities activate, and perform drive checks)

If you thought Blaster Blade’s (VC) ability is only in effect during your grade 2 turn or after Exculpate the Blaster, you’d be mistaken. With Gancelot on the field, your Blaster Blade becomes a “pseudo-vanguard”, allowing its (VC) ability to go live. But not only that, it will also get its drive check as well. So you’d have to guard with 10000 more than you would against a rear-guard Blaster Blade, in the off chance a Trigger gets checked. And this is on top of the 10000 Power Blaster Blade already gets from Gancelot’s first ability. Which by the way, works during your opponent’s turn, effectively protecting your precious unit from incoming fire. Well… except the fire that is Kagero, or the thunder that is Narukami.

V-BT05/007 RRR 竪琴の騎士 トリスタン Knight of the Harp, Tristan
[AUTO](RC):When placed, if your vanguard is grade 3 or greater, COST [Counter Blast (1)], search your deck for up to one “Blaster Blade”, reveal it and put it into your hand, and shuffle your deck.

If you’re not using King of Knights, Alfred, you’d be at a lack of a way to search Blaster Blade from deck. Luckily, Tristan can provide the searching you need. It’s a simple searcher, that makes searching for your key card a lot easier without having to resort to hard draw tactics. But sadly it uses up a Counter Blast just like most other Royal Paladins. If only we had a Counter Charger…

V-BT05/030 R プラック・エンチャンター Pluck Enchanter
[AUTO](RC)[1/Turn]:When your “Blaster Blade” is placed, Soul Charge (1), and if there are no face up cards in your damage zone, Counter Charge (1).

Lo and behold! Finally after sets V-BT01, V-MB01, V-BT03, and V-EB06, Royal Paladin has their Counter Charger. It has a restriction on it similar to Lightning of Hope, Helena and Ill-fate Deletor, Drown, but nonetheless, it’s a Counter Charger. Being your ace card, Blaster Blade will be used extremely often, so the condition of Blaster Blade being placed is very easy. In fact, if you use Blaster Blade’s on place ability, you can recuperate its cost of Soul Blast and Counter Blast with this card’s Soul Charge and Counter Charge.

That’s all this time. Tomorrow, we’ll have a look at the Tsukuyomi ride chain, and how it’s been buffed up in Standard.
