[V-TD07/V-BT04] Rulings and Q&A
Expect some rulings about Deleted units.
Docking Deletor, Greion (V-TD07/001)
Q: A vanguard with an AUTO ability with the condition of “When rode upon” is deleted. If that vanguard is rode upon by a new unit, can you activate that AUTO ability?
A: No, you cannot activate it. A deleted unit loses its Power and text. Therefore, as it lost its text, an AUTO ability with the condition of “When rode upon” cannot be activated when it is rode upon.
Q: A deleted grade 3 vanguard is rode upon by a unit with an AUTO ability with the condition of “If you rode from a grade 3”. Can you activate the AUTO ability of that unit?
A: Yes, you can activate it. A deleted unit loses its Power and text, but retains its Grade and Skill Icons (Boost, Intercept, etc.). As its grade is still retained, when riding a unit with an AUTO ability with the condition of “If you rode from a grade 3”, you can activate that AUTO ability.
Swift Deletor, Geali (V-TD07/003)
Q: At the time this unit was placed, your opponent had more rear-guards than you did, but some time after it was placed, you ended up having more rear-guards than your opponent. From the point in time when you had more rear-guards than your opponent, do you apply the effect of “this unit gets [Power]+4000 until end of turn”?
A: No, you do not. The effect of “this unit gets [Power]+4000 until end of turn” is only applied when resolving the AUTO ability of this unit when it is placed. As the requirement for “if you have more rear-guards than your opponent” when it was placed was not met, you cannot apply the effect of “this unit gets [Power]+4000 until end of turn”.
Ferment Deletor, Gaen (V-TD07/006)
Q: Even if you could not resolve the effect of “choose one of your opponent’s grade 1 or less rear-guards, and bind it face down”, can you still pay the cost and resolve the effect of “draw a card”.
A: Yes, you can. Even if you could not resolve the effect of “choose one of your opponent’s grade 1 or less rear-guards, and bind it face down”, as long as the condition of “At the end of the battle that it attacked a vanguard” is met, and you pay the cost, you can still apply the effect of “draw a card”.
Gust Blaster Dragon (V-BT04/001)
Q: When you retire two rear-guards with this unit’s first AUTO ability with the cost of “retire two rear-guards”, how many times will you activate this unit’s second AUTO ability with the condition of “When your rear-guard is retired”.
A: Activate it twice, once for each of your rear-guards retired.
Q: Because your opponent has no rear-guards, the effect of “your opponent chooses one of his or her rear-guards” cannot be resolved. Is it still possible to pay the cost of this ability?
A: Yes, it is possible. In this case, you resolve as much of the effects as possible, and the effect of “draw a card” and “This unit gets [Power]+10000 until end of turn” will still resolve.
Q: Can you still activate this unit’s AUTO ability for “When your rear-guard is retired” in the case of when you have multiple units on a single rear-guard circle and have to move all of the units other than the one last placed to your drop zone.
A: Yes you can. This unit’s AUTO ability also activates for when rear-guards are moved from your field to your drop zone.*
*Section 10.4.2. of the Comprehensive Rules state the following: If a unit moved from your field to your drop zone, then that unit is considered to have been “retired”.
Dueling Dragon King, ZANGEKI (V-BT04/002)
Q: While the effect of this unit’s CONT ability for “your opponent can only call grade 0 cards from hand to (GC)” is active, can your opponent call the pseudo-card created by “Imaginary Gift: Protect” to (GC)?
A: No, they cannot. The pseudo-card created by “Imaginary Gift: Protect” has the grade “protect”*, and therefore is not grade 0, so it cannot be called to (GC).
*Section 12.12.2.2 of the Comprehensive Rules state the following: “Protect” pseudo-cards have the grade “protect”.
Section 12.12.2.2.1 states: The grade “protect” cannot be increased or reduced as a numerical value.
Q: Does the effect of this unit’s CONT ability for “your opponent can only call grade 0 cards from hand to (GC)” apply when your rear-guard attacks?
A: Yes, it does. The ability does not state that it has to be either a vanguard or a rear-guard’s battle, so it applies for all your unit’s battles.
Q: Is this unit’s CONT ability for “If “Left Arrester” is in your front row” active during your opponent’s turn?
A: Yes, it is. The ability does not state “During your turn” etc. so it is active even on your opponent’s turn.
Waving Deletor, Greidhol (V-BT04/003)
Q: If in the case where you cannot resolve the effect of “choose one of your opponent’s rear-guards, and bind it face down”, if the condition of “If you rode from a grade 3” is met, can you still resolve the effect of “delete your opponent’s vanguard, and this unit gets [Critical]+1 until end of turn”
A: Yes, you can. You resolve as much of the effect as possible.
Q: While this unit’s CONT ability for “Your opponent’s rear-guards cannot move to other (RC)” is active, can your opponent intercept?
A: Yes, they can. Intercepting is moving from the (RC) to the (GC), and not from (RC) to another (RC).
Q: While this unit’s CONT ability for “Your opponent’s rear-guards cannot move to other (RC)” is active, can your opponent’s rear-guards move by a card effect?
A: No, they cannot. Moving to other (RC) is not possible, regardless of whether it is by a card effect or not.
Q: While this unit’s CONT ability for “Your opponent’s rear-guards cannot move to other (RC)” is active, does it prevent effects for “exchange positions”?
A: Yes, That effect cannot be resolved, because it involves moving from (RC) to other (RC), so it is prevented.
Q: While this unit’s CONT ability for “Your opponent’s rear-guards cannot move to other (RC)” is active, does it prevent exchanging the cards in the front and back row (RC)?
A: Yes, it does.
King of Masks, Dantarian (V-BT04/004)
Q: When resolving the effect of “three of your rear-guards get [Power]+5000 until end of turn”, is it possible to apply the effect of [Power]+5000 three times to the same rear-guard?
A: No, it must be applied to different rear-guards.
Q: How is the effect of “three of your rear-guards get [Power]+5000 until end of turn” resolved if you have only two rear-guards?
A: The effect is applied as much as possible, and therefore, only two rear-guards will get [Power]+5000.
Q: Several grade 2 or greater cards were put into your soul by the effect of Soul Charge (2). How many times will this unit’s AUTO ability activate for “When a grade 2 or greater card is put into your soul by a card ability”?
A: It will activate as many times as the number of grade 2 or greater cards that were put into your soul.
Q: What exactly does “by a card ability” mean?
A: It refers to the cost or the effect of an ability. Therefore, this ability will activate for when grade 2 or greater cards are put into your soul by a cost, or by an effect like Soul Charge. However, this ability will not trigger for when a grade 2 or greater is put into your soul by riding over it.
Q: After an opponent’s rear-guard intercepted, it is retired. Does this unit’s AUTO ability activate for “When your opponent’s rear-guard is retired during your turn” for that retire?
A: No, it does not. When a rear-guard moves to (GC) when intercepting, it is treated as a guardian, and not a rear-guard, so the condition of “When your opponent’s rear-guard is retired during your turn” is not satisfied and this unit’s AUTO ability cannot activate for that retire.
Q: Multiple opponent’s rear-guards were retired at once during your turn. How may times will this unit’s AUTO ability activate for “When your opponent’s rear-guard is retired during your turn”?
A: It will activate for as many times as the number of rear-guards retired at once.
Q: A card with an AUTO ability for “When placed” is placed from soul to (GC). Will that card’s AUTO ability activate for “When placed”?
A: Yes, because it was placed in the respective circle, its AUTO ability can activate.
Q: Even if the effect of “your opponent can only call grade 0 cards from hand to (GC)” of your opponent’s “Dueling Dragon King, ZANGEKI” (V-BT04/002) is active, can you still call guardians from your soul?
A: Yes you can. Only calling from the hand is restricted, and calling from the soul is not restricted.
Q: This unit’s CONT ability for “When you would call a guardian, you can call grade 2 or greater cards from your soul” is active. Can you combine guarding from the soul with intercepting and guarding from the hand?
A: Yes, you can.
Gun Salute Dragon, End of Stage (V-BT04/005)
Q: Is it possible to choose not to play this unit’s AUTO ability for “When placed by riding on a grade 3”?
A: No, it is not possible. The text of this ability does not state “you may”, so when this unit rides over a grade 3, this ability becomes stand by, and you must play this ability*.
*Section 8.6.3.1 of the Comprehensive Rules state the following: You must play your automatic abilities that are standing by, and cannot choose not to play.
Q: Can you pay the cost of this unit’s AUTO ability for “put two cards from your hand and all of your rear-guards into your soul” to make this unit [Stand] if you have no rear-guards?
A: Yes, you can. As long as you put two cards from your hand into your soul, you can pay the cost of this unit’s AUTO ability, and resolve the rest of the effect to [Stand] this unit. If the cost specifies “all”, you can pay the cost even if that cost is virtually zero.
Fantasy Petal Storm, Shirayuki (V-BT04/008)
Q: If the effect of [Power]-10000 is applied to a unit in the front row with 5000 [Power], what will its [Power] be?
A: It will be -5000. If the increase in [Power] is negative, [Power] will decrease. After that, if the [Power] of the unit is less than 0, the [Power] of that unit will be negative.
Q: How will the effect of “choose three units in your opponent’s front row, and they get [Power]-5000 until end of turn” resolve if there are only two units in your opponent’s front row?
A: It will resolve as much as possible, and hence, only two units in your opponent’s front row will get [Power]-5000.
Schwarzschild Dragon (V-BT04/009)
Q: Can you look at face-down cards in your opponent’s bind zone?
A: No, you cannot. Only your opponent can look at those cards.
Q: If all cards in your opponent’s bind zone are already face up, the effect of “face up all cards in your opponent’s bind zone” does not resolve. Does the effect of “Until the end of your opponent’s turn, he or she cannot normal call cards with the same name as a card in their bind zone” still apply?
A: Even if you were not able to resolve the effect of “face up all cards in your opponent’s bind zone”, the effect of “Until the end of your opponent’s turn, he or she cannot normal call cards with the same name as a card in their bind zone” still applies.
Q: Does the effect of “Until the end of your opponent’s turn, he or she cannot normal call cards with the same name as a card in their bind zone” apply to normal calling to (GC)?
A: Yes, it does.
Lie-down Deletor, Given (V-BT04/010)
Q: When you pay the cost of “put six cards from your hand or rear-guards into your drop zone”, can you choose to put six cards from only one of those locations (either all from your hand, or all from your field).
A: Yes, you can. You can choose to put six from only one of those locations, or six total from both.
Q: When resolving the effect of “put a card from your hand into your soul”, can you choose a card drawn by the effect of “draw two cards”?
A: Yes, you can. The effect of “put a card from your hand into your soul” occurs after the effect of “draw two cards”.
Dark Metal Dragon (V-BT04/014)
Q: If you do not call by the effect of “search your deck for up to one [Power]9000 card, call it to (RC)”, can you still resolve the effect of “Your opponent chooses one of his or her rear-guards, and retires it”, or vice versa?
A: In either case, you resolve as much of the effects as possible. Even if the ability has some effects that cannot resolve properly, you resolve as much of it as possible.
Q: When you ride this card over “Fullbau” (V-TD04/011), you activate this unit’s AUTO ability and call “Fullbau” to (RC). In this case, can you still activate the AUTO ability of “Fullbau” for “When rode upon, draw a card”?
A: Yes, you can. When you ride “Apocalypse Bat” over “Fullbau”, the AUTO abilities of both “Apocalypse Bat” for “When placed” and “Fullbau” for “When rode upon” become stand by. At this point, even if “Fullbau” leaves the soul, as you chose to activate the AUTO ability of “Apocalypse Bat” first, you still activate the ability of “Fullbau” to draw a card.
Master of Fifth Element (V-BT04/022)
Q: Can you pay the cost of this unit’s AUTO ability for “put all cards from your hand and soul into the drop zone” to [Stand] all units if you have no cards in your hand?
A: Yes, you can. If the cost specifies “all”, you can pay the cost even if that cost is virtually zero. (See ruling above for “Gun Salute Dragon, End of Stage” (V-BT04/005))
Stealth Fiend, Jakotsu Girl (V-BT04/028)
Q: When resolving the effect of “look at seven cards from the top of your deck”, what happens when the number of cards in your deck is six or less?
A: Look at as many cards from the top of your deck as possible, then resolve the remaining effects.
Gravity Collapse Dragon (V-BT04/032)
Q: Before this unit’s AUTO ability was able to resolve, this unit left the (RC) and moved to hand, etc. How will the effect of “call up to one grade 3 <Cyber Dragon> from among them to the circle with this unit as [Rest]” resolve?
A: Since this unit left the (RC), there is no applicable circle for “circle with this unit”, and as such, the effect will not resolve.
Dark Soul Conductor (V-BT04/037)
Q: When this unit that applied its effect of [Shield]+10000 is retired, is it possible to put it into soul by the AUTO ability of “Demon Eater” (V-BT02/019)?
A: No, it is not. This unit does not retreat at the end of the damage step, and is instead put at the bottom of your deck. In this case, the condition of “When your guardian is retired” of “Demon Eater” is not met, and hence you cannot activate the AUTO ability of “Demon Eater”.
Witch of Fertility, Nenes (V-BT04/045)
Q: For this card’s ACT ability, can I choose to only “Counter Charge (1)” and not “Soul Charge (1)”?
A: No, you cannot “Counter Charge (1)” and not “Soul Charge (1)”. You must resolve as much of the effect of “Counter Charge (1) / Soul Charge (1)” as much as possible.
Q: Which player performs their choice of applying the effect of “Counter Charge (1) / Soul Charge (1)” or not.
A: The master of that ability chooses whether to apply the effect of “Counter Charge (1) / Soul Charge (1)” first, and then, if they choose to do so, choose which card to Counter Charge (1). After that, the other player chooses whether to apply the effect of “Counter Charge (1) / Soul Charge (1)” first, and then, if they choose to do so, choose which card to Counter Charge (1).
Endive Beast Tamer (V-BT04/081)
Q: Is it possible to call two units to the same (RC) with the ACT ability of this unit?
A: No, they must be called to separate (RC).
Q: Is it possible to call units from your soul to the (RC) in the same column as this unit, or to the same (RC) as this unit?
A: Yes, it is possible, as the ability does not specify “other column” or “other (RC)”.
Nephrite Beast Tamer (V-BT04/082)
Q: Two rear-guards are placed from soul at the same time, while a single copy of this card is on (RC). In this case, can you activate this unit’s AUTO ability twice?
A: No, you cannot, as the cost of “retire this unit” can only be paid once for one copy of this card, so we can only activate this unit’s AUTO ability once.
Q: By some card effect, both this card and another card were called from soul at the same time. In this case, can you activate this unit’s AUTO ability?
A: Yes, you can. The condition can be fulfilled if another card is called at the same time as this card.
